BROOME

July 11, 2015

We left the Broome Gateway park (about 35k from Broome) reasonably early on the 1st with time to call at the info centre to find out where the Karangau caravan park is- just behind Cable Beach. Booked in to there by 10.30- hate paying for 24 hours & not getting 24 hours! First place we had to find was the Hospital & where the pathologist, day surgery & specialist centres all are situated. Collected my path request form for the tests on the 2nd then back to tackle the washing after a large grocery shop, as it was the 28th May the last time we shopped at Alice Springs & things were getting rather low in the food line. (and drinkies).
We went round to Cable the first night there for the sunset but was disappointed that there were no clouds to give better effect.
These beautiful palm trees are at the Information Centre, which is new since we were last here.

First thing the next morning was up to pathologist for my tests & back to van for breakfast after which we went into town to check out how much it had changed.
Discovered this morning that both lithium batteries for my good camera had died so I spent a few hours on the internet trying to find where I could buy some & get them sent up to Kununurra. Also decided to order a new charger just in case that was the problem. No where here in Broome apart from a 12 volt shop who said he could get one here by 14th but that was too late.
Apart from the Woollies complex we found yesterday the whole place has expanded a lot. By 4pm we were at Town Beach to settle in for the Staircase to the Moon which was not until 5.47. Put our chairs out on the old jetty as hopefully we had picked the correct spot to view the moon rising, which it was. There was also a great cloud cover – for the sunset at Cable Beach- too far away to get there. It was not a good moon rise either unfortunately.
Decided to return here the next night to maybe get some photos as well as wander around the markets.
We parked beside the footpath as we were early, wandered over to the stalls & turned around to see Lesley & Erich. We took our chairs out, but not as far as the previous night. All getting hungry so Lesley & I went to get our food. The moon was not rising until 6.47 to-night (an hour later each night for 3 nights). The photo below shows how good the sunset would have been back at Cable Beach.
This is called Town Beach with a van park right on the foreshore and there were literally hundreds of folk here for the moon rising.

The 2nd last photo is a mother feeding its baby- can just see the mother’s head behind the tree trunk.

At van door picking up crumbs. These trees are so beautiful & even in this red dirt country seem to remain very white.

Through the trees at the caravan park.
