DE GREY RIVER TO BROOME GATEWAY

July 6, 2015

We had a good few days with the 2 couples we got talking with. One couple know our good friends Jan & Berny from New Haven & the other couple know friends from Cessnock. This is a large area but rather dusty & you could be lucky enough to park on one of the few concrete blocks which we were told are remains of a Main Roads camp when the highway was being made!
The second day we were there a Scenic Coach Tour group pulled in for morning tea & toilet stop. Offered thenm a roll of the necessary toilet paper but they got some out of the bus! Had a chat to a guy who came over to check out our van.
One day we could smell smoke but not see any evidence of fires but the sunset that afternoon confirmed our suspicions- it was so red. Names of the birds below would be appreciated. First one not a Kookaburra. They are so hard to see in the trees at most times.

29th JUNE

On from the Stanley rest area & heading up to the Broome Gateway van park for a couple of nights before heading into Broome township. We were told by a few folk to look out for the large amount of Brolgas either side of the road before we reach the T junction at Roebuck.
Saw them but they were so far away as well as hard to see in the dead grasses and the ant hills which are the same color.
I cannot work out what that thing on the right is in the first photo! Have cropped them as much as possible. Once again never thought about getting the binoculars out of the van!

Parked next to Lesley & Erich & it was good to see them again. This Park is well off the highway so rather quiet but all sites are red dust! Getting rather used to this though. The only bird I took a photo of here at the park. A Red winged parrot.
